A LUMINOUS Baby!

Jill, one of our most frequent customers, sent me these photos of her grandaughter wearing things that Jill made for her with fabric from the shop. This hat is made of a print with little kitties.

She used vintage reproduction fabrics and she even embroidered a Winnie the Pooh on the pocket and tucked one of our hankies inside!

Here's another very cute dress. Thanks for sharing your photos, Jill!

Knitting Retreat Anyone!?

I have mentioned that I would like to hold a knitting/crochet and relaxation retreat and a few customers have expressed enthusiasm about the idea. I found this house that was built by a quilter and scapbooker specifically for crafting retreats in Soda Springs, not far from Truckee. It looks beautiful!

I'm thinking that 3 nights would be perfect: arrive on a Friday, leave Monday morning. All meals will be included and classes will be also be included in the price. The maximum number of guests will be 7. Carpooling could be arranged, too. Contact me if you are interested and we can get the ball rolling!

It probably would be held before of after the snow...

Greta's Great Quilt

Greta is ready to baste her quilt top! She came by the store yesterday to pick out a beautiful blue print for the backing. She used our 30's reproduction fabrics to make this "Rail Fence" quilt. I can't WAIT to see it all quilted and finished. What an inspiration!
Contact the store if you would like to learn how to make a quilt like this with your own choice of fabrics!

Show and Tell

Here are some lovely creations by our Luminous Customers!!
Susan's lovely sweater is made from Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Chunky. Don't you love the colors she chose?

Dolly shows a quilt she made for a friend's baby. She tied it with Cascade 220 wool! Looks great, Dolly!

Each block in this masterpiece is hand stitched and uses different fabrics (no 2 blocks have a repeated print!). The quilt artist used the book: "Dear Jane" and tried to keep it all in civil war reproduction prints. What an amazing quilt!!!

Our Spring Fashion Show, June 3rd, 2006!

Saturday, June 3 was our first ever Spring Fashion Show. We celebrated our first successful year as an inspiring crafting center in the mountains. Luminous Helper Kristin’s daughter Katelyn was a delightful little model and everyone else shared their tips and secrets to their wonderful garments. Tote bags and tape measures were given away as party favors. We also gave away a $50 gift certificate for our grand prize drawing. I want to thank everyone who came to the party, and don’t forget that we will have more of these shows, so you don’t want to miss our next gathering in September!
Check out some of these lovely one of a kind garments!

Everyone's favorite garment seemed to be this shawl knitted out of Noro Kureyon. Sarah says she has people stop her in the streets asking her where she got this shawl. She admits that it did take a few weeks of work, but she is so happy with the outcome, and why shouldn't she be? The shape of the shawl is created by 3 large squares. They are not knitted separately and sewn together, rather stitches are picked up from the sides. The rows alternate from stockinette to garter and the Noro yarn does all the striping for you. The bottom edge is a crochet scallop. Let us know if you are one of the many knitters interested in making this shawl! The cost for the yarn is about $85.00 retail.

Katelyn models a matching hat and glove set knitted by the amazing Amber Barcus, with Cascade Sierra and eyelash yarn for the trim. She says she gets compliments on the hat wherever she goes. She's also wearing a knitted piece over her skirt. Very stylish, Katelyn!!

Tencha's first project was this pair of socks, knitted with Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran. She took our sock class and did such a great job! The green toes and heels are just adorable. She made them for her grandson.

More Photos From Our Spring Fashion Show!

Laurel displays her felted bag made with a combination of yarns from our store. She has made a few bags now, and has caught the felting bug. Don't you love the color combination?

Jennifer is holding her Debbie Bliss Cashmerino sweater she made for her grandson. She used a Debbie Bliss pattern, but added her own design, chosen by her grandson. She loved working with this yarn because of how soft it is and the fact that it's machine washable is a big plus when you're knitting for a young man, right?

Jill models her Noro Kochoron fingerless glove and hat set. The pattern for the gloves is from the book: Alterknits. She used our hand-dyed silk ribbon to lace the gloves, and felted them slightly for extra warmth and fit. She used Cascade Pastaza for the green trim.

Candace shows us her beautiful sweater for her son Lucian. She used our Cascade "Sienna", 80% cotton and 20% wool, machine washable. Her stripes are just incredible!
